Dot NAME Domain Names

Started in 2001, the Dot NAME extension is the only one supposed to be for personal web pages only. These domain names can consist of personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other designations people are popular by. Initially, solely third-level registrations were possible, so if you planned to purchase john.doe.name, you would have to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were loosened and second-level registrations were also allowed. Existing 3rd-level domains remained online.
